When stress stops feeling temporary

Most people don't recognize burnout right away. They assume they're just busy, tired, or going through a demanding season of life. They tell themselves things will settle down after the next project, deadline, or obligation. But eventually, something starts to feel different.

You may find yourself running on empty, snapping more easily than usual, struggling to focus, or lying awake at night even when you're exhausted. For some people, burnout shows up emotionally. For others, it shows up physically through tension, headaches, chronic symptoms, or a body that is unable to relax.

The people I work with are often the ones everyone else relies on. They are caregivers, parents, helping professionals, high achievers, and people who have learned how to keep going even when they're running low themselves.

Burnout is about more than being overworked

Burnout can develop when stress becomes chronic and recovery never fully happens. For some people, that stress comes from demanding careers. For others, it comes from caregiving responsibilities, perfectionism, chronic health challenges, major life transitions, or years of prioritizing everyone else's needs before their own.

You may notice that things that once felt manageable now feel overwhelming. You might feel emotionally depleted, disconnected from yourself, or unable to access the same energy and motivation you once had. Sometimes burnout is less about the amount on your plate and more about how long you've been carrying it without enough support, rest, or space to process what you're experiencing. In many cases, burnout is a sign that your nervous system has been carrying more than it was meant to carry for too long.

how therapy can help

Burnout is often treated like a time management problem. Be more efficient. Take a vacation. Set better boundaries. Get more sleep. While those things can be helpful, many people discover they're not enough. If the underlying patterns remain unchanged, it's easy to find yourself right back where you started.

My approach integrates evidence-based cognitive and somatic therapies to support both emotional well-being and nervous system health. Together, we'll explore the patterns that contribute to chronic stress and strengthen awareness of your body's signals. We'll figure out what it looks like for you to both meet your responsibilities and also get your needs met. We'll learn to recognize the signals your mind and body have been sending long before burnout reached a breaking point and make space for the emotions, needs, and limits that may have been pushed aside in the process of simply getting through the day.
